Hexion employees support children’s hospice

Dec 19, 2019, 14:39 PM by Michael Stahl

Hexion employees have been supporting the work of the Balthasar children's hospice in Germany for many years. This year coloring books and pens among other useful toys were donated. So that Balthasar can continue to be a place to live and laugh, die and mourn, the institution is dependent on the help of many people. In order to provide support for the families, Balthasar was set up in September 1998 as Germany’s first children’s hospice. Since then, it has accompanied families with a terminally ill child on their difficult journey from diagnosis to death.

At Balthasar children’s hospice the emphasis is on living and laughing. Its aim is to make the most of life by making the life of a child with life-shortening conditions as positive and worth living as possible. Thus, they offer a ‘snoezelen’ room, music therapy and therapy dogs as well as activities such as reading out to the children, cuddling or just spending time with them.

The team supports the families in accordance with their individual needs and worldview. When the children are approaching the end of life, families can stay with them anytime. In this phase, the hospice guarantees dignified support which is in line with the individual needs and wishes of the child and its relatives. An experienced and qualified team helps families to cope with the difficult situation and to deal with loss and grief by offering emotional and spiritual support. Death and grief are an essential part of Balthasar.
